Pier Head, Liverpool
The Pier Head had always been both a cheap place to visit as kids and the gateway to the Mersey Ferry and all that it offered on the opposite bank of the river, mainly New Brighton.
These pictures were taken over the Easter of 1981. Families were having similar days out to my own childhood but there were also men of a certain age, staring out across the once busy waters, contemplating a time when they once worked as shipbuilders, merchant seamen or dockers in the not too distant past. Or maybe they just came down for a hot dog or an ice cream.
