Poll Tax Demo, London
Organised by the All Britain Anti-Poll Tax Federation (the Fed), the Anti-Poll Tax Demo on the 31st March 1990 was meant to be a loud but peaceful affair. Sadly, the police and their deliberate tactics made it something completely different altogether, sending mounted police into an unsuspecting crowd of over 200,000 wasn't going to end well. Despite the subsequent civil unrest, creating headlines for the Tory press, the ongoing actions of the Fed; 'can't pay, won't pay', and constant regional demonstrations, the Poll Tax was eventually scrapped and Thatcher was forced to resign on November 22nd 1990.
