Shopping, Hull. 1982

This could almost have been titled 'No Longer On The High Street', given how many of the shops, once household names, have ceased trading in the time since these pictures were taken. The great department stores of Binns and Houndsditch, Woolworth and the old staple of Hull, Jacksons Grandways. These were the times when a trip to 'town' was a whole days shopping, the hustle and bustle of the sales, aching feet, all finished off with a cup of tea and a slice of cake in a department store café.
