Indoor Market, Southport
Southport Indoor Market was originally built in 1881 but was destroyed by fire in 1913. It was rebuilt on its current King Street Hall site in 1931. In 1987 as photographer in residence at Southport Art's Centre, I spent several months wandering in and around the market, drifting through the plethora of butchers, greengrocers, clothes stalls and the ubiquitous market cafe, weaving between the, mostly, housewives of Southport, there was a real hustle and bustle about the place.
Commissioned by Sefton Council and exhibited at the Atkinson Art Gallery, Southport, 1987.
