People’s March for Jobs

'Rising unemployment and the recession have been the price we have to pay to get inflation down. That price is well worth paying.' Norman Lamont, Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Today almost 3 million people are paying the price.

In July 91, twenty people without jobs from the North East legged it across the region speaking out against unemployment on street corners and estates, at town halls and factory gates. Organised by the region's Unemployment Centres, the marchers delivered a petition at the Miners' Gala calling for real jobs, real wages and real training.

Sponsored by: Northern Arts, NUPE, Gateshead Council, North Tyneside Council MidNAG, Durham City Arts, South Tyneside MBC and NUM NE.
